About me

Any bio of me has to start by saying that I have way too many things I'm interested in. I know just enough about a lot of things to get myself in trouble! I am pretty good at faking it if there's not much in my brain on a subject. It would be wonderful if I was independently wealthy and could just take classes all the time- I love to learn things.

Formal education is a Bachelor's Degree in French with a minor in Psychology and a Law Degree. I never wanted to be a lawyer, just go to law school and then write and teach. I've been wrapped up in my legal career since graduating and I'm looking forward to using Helium to help me transition toward focusing more on the writing. Prior to all the schooling, I was the sports editor and a member of the editorial board for my high school paper. I wrote entertainment reviews and copy for the yearbook, as well as a sports column that won some awards. I also won additional awards for feature and headline writing. Working full-time while in school took me away from my writing, but in law school I got back into it as an editor for the International Law Journal. Since then, I've done some technical writing and editing, but haven't published any articles. I'm looking to change that quickly!

Some random info about me: I'm currently working on a series of novels that I have somewhat outlined in my head. If I could just get the first one on paper. I like to write poetry when I'm down. I can be quite opinionated about some things, but I believe in listening to everyone's opinion and not judging or criticizing their points of view. I believe that we could be a much better country if every high school student had to spend some time in a jail, a homeless shelter, a welfare office, and a third world country. I'm planning a "sabbatical" trip to Asia at the beginning of next year. I plan to write about it extensively. I had planned to spend a month each in India, China, and SE Asia, but the more I read about India, the more interested I am about staying there longer.

I'm excited about making new friends that are writers- I know a few already, but it's great to have people who "get" me and my creative frustrations. I'm looking forward to being involved in the community here and getting to know all of you!

Creative Writing > Memoirs Testimonies: My favorite cat

Cats are truly amazing creatures. They definitely have a bad stereotypical image going, though- the aloof king of the castle attitude springs to mind. A hissing, unfriendly, shedding monster that doesn't do anything but lie around in the sun all day and does not come to you when you call. But cat owners know better. It's the great secret. There are cats like that. However, the vast majority of cats will love on you like a dog, yet not require your constant attention, and you can leave them alone while you're at work without worrying about your shoes being eaten. Perfect! I wanted a kitten ...
