About me - Colleen Ely

About me

I'm a 33-year-old wondering and wandering spirit who does technical work in two different fields. I do, however, like to dabble in creativity from time to time.

I would describe myself as the person who wonders if it hurts to disintegrate; not because I am drawn to pain, but because I am ruled by curiosity. I am a pseudo poet, a perpetual child and an interested student on life's mysterious (and sometimes mundane) journey. I was once told the best thing about me is, "You love everything!" Which, is not true. I don't love packing peanuts. In fact, I might even dislike them. A lot.

I've been writing since the tender age of four, at which time, I wrote a seven word poetry piece announcing my sister was a toad! In 7th grade my writing skills were questioned by a teacher who wondered if I'd plagiarized a story for her class. After challenging me to write a second story (in her presence), she discovered I most likely did write the first story. However, she also concluded I might seriously be in need of therapy. My writing has evolved, devolved, mutated and found it's form again over the years- not necessarily in that order. For years my writing was dark but as I've aged, I find calm and laughter are more my comfort. I will continue to write until the ink well runs dry because... well, honestly, there is nothing else I'd rather be doing.

Oh, and I like strawberry pie. It's okay if you do not like strawberry pie but if you do; it's even better!

Thanks for stopping by!

Briefly me

My passion is ...

laughter. I have a huge collection!

I know too much about ...

killing a gnat with a blink. It was traumatic.

My parents always told me ...

"You might be a late bloomer, but oh, what gorgeous blooms!" Aw shucks. Thanks, Mom.

My childhood ambition ...

I was going to be the first female President, slam dunkin' for the Chicago bulls, spelunkin' lawyer and veterinarian. And I'd own a pajama shop.

My favorite memory ...

is when my sister found the "missing" tip of a friends toe in a stationary bike chain, thinking it was popcorn. Sad for my friend, but a good giggle over my siblings reaction upon the realization it was a toe! Yuck!

Why I write ...

because it is much like breathing, isn't it? Though, sometimes a subtle gasp...

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

iPod goodness. An amazing collection of eclectic genres that might make one question my ear for music.

My first job ...

playing with grubworms. No lie. My folks picked cotton, and my job was to stay distracted.

My best moment ...

the next one.

My inspiration ...

life. Especially the simple snippets we often overlook.

I'm finally getting the message. It's been two years in the making. At first, I thought it was just bad luck or poor timing. Now, I'm convinced God is speaking to me through the produce. Or, more accurately, testing my soul with fruit; most delish.

I first dabbled in strawberries when I was a child in small town Oklahoma. I should have known the dangerous path I was on when I resorted to sating my craving with not-quite-ripe, out of season, scrawny morsels from the plants lining our home.

Over the years my want for the sweet, juicy goodness evolved into a crippling need that pushed me...
