: About Me

Who am I? ... the introvert who loves to curl up with a book on her own? the extrovert who delights in celebrating life with others? If you try to define me too precisely, I'll feel compelled to break free. Watch out, for I am a rebel with a cause: defending the innocent and helpless; speaking out against injustice and confronting the bullies and manipulators of our society.

Music is my first language, but I've learnt several others. Over the years I've also studied medical science, theology and psychology. I'm a bit of a contradiction really - for example, I prefer natural therapy to medication yet have only recently left a career in nursing. I've taught theology yet believe that life's experience makes the best teacher. I've written a book entitled "Knowing Me, Knowing You", but am just beginning to understand myself. After all, life itself is a mass of contradictions, isn't it!

For three years, when my children were young, we lived in India. Since then I've spent some years speaking to audiences, both youth and adult, on a variety of topics relating to contemporary society. I love helping people to know, appreciate and use their God-given gifts. I'm passionately in favour of home churches where everyone is encouraged to become involved and use their talents creatively. My four children, now adults, have probably taught me as much as I've taught them! I also have some valuable friends and mentors who are a wonderful source of encouragement.

I see Helium as a great way of relating honestly to one another, and encouraging each other in these tough times to write passionately and persuasively about the things that really matter. In the two years I have been with Helium I have been mightily encouraged by the many writers who have sent me messages of appreciation. Let's stick together and keep spurring one another on to bigger and better things!

My first job ...

was catching snails in the garden for my grandma, at one cent each.

My best moment ...

was when God showed me how much he loved me.
