Wow! This is scary! What about me do I want to share with the world? Probably more than the world wants to know so when you figure you've read far enough, World, just feel free to quit. Won't hurt my feelings at all because, let's face it, I won't know, will I? Okay, here goes. I'm a woman. Have been for many years. I was a daughter to a couple of pretty neat people, sister to a few more of the same and still am. I'm a wife, a mom, a mom-in-law, a grandmom, a friend, a happy person, a traveler and am interested in so many facets of life I've lost count. I'm also a writer. Have been that for almost as many years as I've been a woman. I'm a published novelist, and a teacher of writing techniques.
Most of the articles I produce here on Helium will be on that subject because that's where my professional expertise and experience lie. I've taught novel writing at Junior College level, given many seminars to writer-groups and wanna-be writer groups (some members of which have become published, though not necessarily because of anything they learned from me), and have published many articles in professional magazines.
Now, about the "traveler" part of me. I was born with itchy feet, inherited, I've been told, from my maternal grandmother. After about 20 years of wandering the world following a soldier and leading two kids by the hand, I was told it was time to settle down and live in one place. Say what? Me? Live in one place? For how long? Well, not as long as some would have liked. Those kids grew up, the soldier (whose feet are as itchy as mine) and I decided we'd seen a lot of Europe, a fair bit of North America, but what about the rest of the world? We moved to Costa Rica. Stayed in one place for four years, then moved out to the Caribbean coast of that pretty little country, bought a house and settled in as much as we settle in anywhere. We live in it for six months of the year. That's when I'm "Judyashore". I'll probably be submitting some travel articles about life in Central America, such as getting around on old, old, old! Bluebird schoobuses sold off as junk by North American School Boards. Hey, some of those old buses still have years of life in them! The other six months of each year, we live aboard a 34 foot Tollycraft and wander the bays, inlets, islands and anchorages between Olympia, WA and the northern end of Vancouver Island in BC. That's when I'm "Judyafloat". Through boating, I've learned how to cook in innovative ways in very small spaces and have plenty of recipes to share along that line. Some of my articles will be about boating and cooking aboard a boat. These recipes, of course, will also be useful in an ordinary kitchen, one that doesn't bounce and rock and threaten to turn turtle. Such kitchens lack a certain amount of...challenge!
So, that's me, World. If you got this far, bless you and thanks!

Yes, consumers should have the option of buying products in glass bottles rather than plastic, reusing them and/or recycling them. Certainly, at one time manufacturers of bottled products saw a financial advantage in moving to plastic containersless breakage, less weight to transport, less trouble in that they did not have to clean and reuse their containers. This, however, is an outlook that must be changed, and changed quickly because the cost of not doing so is far outweighed by the cost of continuing current practices. In a certain area of the Pacific Ocean where the currents meet, the...
