While growing up in New Jersey, as a young girl, I spent a lot of time in my room. When I was in my room I spent a great deal of time writing. I wrote plenty poems, and short stories concerning the environment that surrounded my childhood.
I became interested in becoming a writer almost thirty three years ago when I was affiliated with this drama group we called "The Shades of Black Ensemble". Some of the members of the group were part of the acting, and some were a part of the singing and dancing, but I was into writing. I loved to write short plays, short stories, poems, and so on. Whenever there was a production, I wanted to recite a poem, or two, which I had written myself. I wrote for my High School Newspaper in Newark, New Jersey. I remember writing an article about the riots of 1968, following the slaying of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I attended Delaware State University on a four year Scholarship majoring in communication. I became an associate sports writer for the "Hornet", which was the college newspaper.
What has always made me happy was creative writing. Two years ago, I put it to the test, and log on to poetry.com. I typed in a poem titled "Trying to be Strong for me", and it was accepted, and then published by "The International Library of Poetry". A year later, I tried it again, with a poem titled "Each and Everyday I Pray", and again it was accepted and published. Of course this organization, "The International Library of Poetry", was later mention on the Internet as being some kind of scam for amateur writers, but I still enjoy watching my work in print. I've always wanted to be a writer, and I've always wanted to enhance my skills. Now that I'm an amateur author of two published poems, well, I would like to take my writing to another level, and of course with a legitimate publishing company.

Just Think About... If Rosa Parks didn't take that seat, or Martin Luther King didn't dare to dream. If James Brown didn't "Say it loud,.." To make us realize we are black and proud. Just think about Central High School that day in Little Rock, or the first black family to move on the block. The signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, and becoming a great interim of this nation. Sacrificing lives for freedom and justice in order for us to have the right to vote. Think about Medger Evers, Malcolm X, and other black men and women brutally murder. They gave their lives to open doors for us....
