About me - Teresa Avila

About me

Auditing feeds my belly, but writing feeds my soul. I'm a latina writer, Tejana, now living in NW Arkansas.

My first article was published in Latina Magazine; and my short stories and poems have appeared in Zopilote Magazine, and Border Senses Literary Review. One of my pieces will appear in the inaugural issue of Azahares, the Spanish literary review of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

I love mysteries, and contribute to the genre by writing the Sara Garcia mystery series. Check it out at http://www.saragarciamysteries.blogspot.com

I'm looking forward to meeting other writers here...and especially writers of mysteries.

In the past I've taught classes to small business owners on internal controls over cash receipts, accounts receivable, inventory management, etc. I will also be contributing articles for entrepreneurs along those lines.

Oklahoma 1998

I hesitate to call the 6 feet by 3 feet flower bed a garden, but my mother and I tended it with care and daily watering in the summer of 1998. She had enjoyed tending the plants in her own garden, but in the heat and humidity of South Texas, anything planted will grow lush and full. The wind-driven plains of Oklahoma presented a challenge. But we managed to grow vibrant red salvia contrasted against its blue relative, mealycup sage. In a shady corner protected from the winds, we installed a birdbath surrounded by lush, dark green Hostas. A gard...
