About me

Hey!

My name is Alecia and I am a kindergarten teacher in Washington State and absolutely LOVE what I do for a living.

This is my sixth year teaching at Parkside. I actually went to Parkside K-3 and met my very best friend in the same room I'm currently teaching in! I taught third grade for two years, sixth grade for three, and now
kindergarten. What can I say, I guess I needed a change. I LOVED teaching sixth grade and hope to return to it in a few years or possibly try middle
school. I like teaching different grades because it allows me to grow professionaly and gives me the opportunity to research different age groups. I am always a learner!

I recently finished my Master's degree at Central Washington University and received my Bachelor's Degree from Warner Pacific College, which is where I also played basketball.

I am the oldest of three and have a little brother who is 26, a little sister who is 19, and a 3 year old niece named Kylee who had a heart transplant at one month old (she is such an inspiration to all of us). My
parents are my role models and have taught me many things in life.

My hobbies inclucde ALL sports but especially basketball and soccer. I LOVE traveling and have been to many cool places. If I wasn't a teacher, I have always said I would be a cultural anthropologist studying cultures around the world. I consistently think about joining the Peace Corps but instead do little teaching jobs every other summer in different countries because I
can't fathom the idea of being gone for so long without seeing my family. I also LOVE snowboarding and have recently taken up a new hobbie/passion which
is surfing! I also enjoy reading, writing, and hanging out in coffee shops.

My best and most favorite thing to do: TOUCH THE LIVES OF KIDS...ALL AGES...ALL SIZES...ALL COLORS....ALL SHAPES....They make me LOVE MY JOB!

Education > Primary School Issues Should the government be cutting funding for elementary schools

As a public school teacher working in a low income school district, cutting funding for elementary schools would negatively impact student learning, success, and work environment. Here are three reasons why. Reason One: Prior to the first day of school, we discuss budget cuts as a staff and try not to feel too sorry for the first year teachers who were hired but may not be kept due to budget. If we are not able to keep one, or sometimes two of those first year teachers, students are then distributed amongst teachers within that grade level. When this happens, it becomes a class size issue....
