About me - Ellen Kudlicki

Hello:
I am a high school teacher.

That in itself should speak volumes. I have often said "I teach high school so that you don't have to." I must admit this isn't the easiest or most lucrative job in the world. People don't stay in education for the perq's.

One man's myth is another man's religion. Consider that point for a moment. This is not to be impious or mocking, but when we read the myths of Rome or India or Asia, it is easy to be lulled into the idea that this is some sort of fairy tale created for children. These tales may read as fiction now, but to the ancients that c... More..

There is an unfortunate assumption that a model must be thin and tall. That may apply to a Paris runway, but is definitely not true when it comes to modeling for a life drawing class. In looking back, the best models that I used in drawing were aware of their space and surroundings and managed to use existing light to limn th... More..

The idea that men and women should be paid equally sounds good. And in intent, it is well meaning and virtuous. Two workers doing the same job should be paid the same. But this is a nation where we are not indentured to our jobs. We are free to come and go at will. As such, pay and compensation should be based on achievement ... More..

It has been said that " a little knowledge is a dangerous thing." Never was this put into play more clearly than the poor excuse for conservation of resources as put forth by self-proclaimed environmentalists. So many erroneous actions have been implemented in the name of being "green", but never more so than in regards to ou... More..

Sixty years ago, before cell phones and video games became the norm, kids weren't supervised to the way they are today. Having been raised in a largely homogeneous society in regards to standards and behavior, most kids knew by the time they started first grade the behavioral expectations of the community. Since most parents ... More..

With the advent of Average Yearly Progress and High Stakes Testing, public schools are running scared when it comes to developing curriculum.
