: About Me

The UK was once my home but I left to teach for three years in Botswana in 1985. I returned to teaching in the UK and after spending nearly six years teaching in a comprehensive school in Doncaster, I went back to Africa in 1995 and have lived and worked there ever since. I am now a head teacher in Uganda; before that I spent two years in Nigeria, three years in Togo, six years in Gambia, two years in Mozambique and a further two years in Botswana. I love Africa and the way my experience in these different countries has broadened and enriched my life. 

I enjoy writing about many different matters, often because there is something that I want to say and sometimes because I find that writing about a topic that interests me helps me to understand it better.

I am very happy to have found Helium and the opportunities it provides for all kinds of writers. There is a wealth of good reading material here and I hope very much that I can make my own small contribution to this.

"It's official!" These were the imploring words of my enthusiastic colleague, "They have found a cure for diabetes here in Nigeria!" It seemed like poor manners to meet this claim with anything other than delight, yet experience has taught me to be very sceptical in such matters.
