Our country was based on the idea that the citizens would have fundamental rights that would be guaranteed and protected as long as the government was still standing. One of those rights was freedom of religion, the right to believe in any god, being, or existence. However, out government later established that this established idea was to allow people to only believe in whichever faith they chose, not practice it, thus rituals and practices that violated the law were deemed illegal.
