: About Me

My name is Michael L. Smith. I live in Binghamton New York. I'm 30 years old with four children,two that I created and two that came with my girlfriend. We have one daughter in common, then I have my own son from a prior relationship and she has two kids from a prior relationship. I've been a writer for as long as I can remember. I never pursued a career in writing til I was in my late twenties just because I never saw it as something I could do and actually get paid for. It was more of a personal hobby than a career option. Now that I'm back in college I've decided that writing is what I want to do for a living. I love the outlet of writing. I love the freedom of writing. I love having the ability to touch lives through the use of my words. It's an amazing feeling that I'm sure many writers can relate to, to have people who read your material, actually understand and appreciate it. Maybe even have their lives changed by it. I feel like I have a lot to offer to the world of writers and readers. I am diverse in many ways including: son of a mother with full blown AIDS, I'm bi-racial(black and white), I was raised an only child, and I've lived in quite a few metropolitan areas including Philadelphia and New York City, and also in less densely populated areas like the Poconos and upstate New York. All my experiences have crafted and molded me into a well rounded writer and person.

Why I write ...

To inspire myself and others and to touch lives of people. To have people relate to my life and my situations.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I read anything from books to magazines and newspapers and internet/watching various television shows, and plenty of movies, new and old/ I listen to a variety of music but mainly Hip Hop and RnB.
