Hello. My name is Rene Kelly. I'm originally from Indiana, but have lived in Florida for the last 25 years or so.
By day, I'm an accountant. But no matter how delicious it sounds, "creative accounting" is not a good thing. So I get my creative kicks by telling stories. Sometimes verbally; sometimes on paper. I like to embellish while still staying with the truth. I find that anything can be made exciting if it's approached from the right angle.
I've had a few articles published, but not for profit yet.
A few years ago, when my husband and step-son were into coin collecting, I ghost wrote a couple of letters to Coin World that were published.
There were a couple of other letters to the editor types that were used.
But my favorite was last Christmas when the local weekly solicited articles about "My Most Memorable Christmas". My submission about having a gentleman friend, now my husband, to dinner with my family on Christmas day because he was new in town and alone was selected as the featured article.
I'm looking forward to stretching my imagination and my skills, and to learning from everyone at Helium.
My passion is ...
life. Just starting a new day is reason to rejoice.
I know too much about ...
brothers. I had four by the time I was ten.
My parents always told me ...
that it was my picture and I could color it however I wanted. If I wanted my elephant to be pink with purple polka dots, my elephant could be pink with purple polka dots.
My childhood ambition ...
to prove that girls could be just as good cowboys as the boys could.
My favorite memory ...
my childhood. My siblings and I always got along better with each other than with anyone else; we still have the most fun among ourselves.
Why I write ...
people get tired of hearing me talk, and all those thoughts have to come out somehow!
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
reading & watching mysteries, and listening to my husband play blues guitar - or any other kind of music.
My first job ...
picking strawberries when school was out for the summer.
My best moment ...
I have to pick just one? Most of them have been pretty awesome.
My inspiration ...
...darned if I know where it all comes from.
If You Didn't Enter the Lottery, Don't Cash the Check You come home from work one day and find an unexpected envelope in your mail box. Your curiosity peaked, you open the envelope. It contains something surprising. It's a letter stating that you've won the Irish International Lottery or the Swedish Sweepstakes or something of that nature. Funny; you don't remember entering that. But the envelope also contains a check, so you're definitely interested. As you continue reading the letter, you find that you have to pay taxes before you can claim the prize. The check is a portion of the winnin...
