For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to write...poems, magazine articles, short stories and children's stories. Naturally, my ultimate goal is to write a book and have it published. My husband was a pastor for nearly twenty years and right now we are working on a book that will highlight the peculiar personalities of church people. We find church life is unique and no matter how many churches you pastor, there are always those certain personalities within the workings of every church.
Although I have had several of my poems published, and undoubtedly that is a good start, I still have the dream of one day writing that book that pays some real dividends. The book we are working on together will be a first for both of us. We find that we have a plethora of resources, him being a pastor and me having been a church secretary for many years. The book will enable us to laugh at ourselves as well as bring to life a cast of characters people will learn to love. Together, we believe we will co-author a special book that will endear itself to church-goers, pastors and the secular world, too.
As a church secretary, I have written newsletter articles and have discovered that writing is one of my spiritual gifts. God has blessed me with this gift and I try to use it to glorify Him when I can. The pending book will definitely bring glory to God as it touches people's lives and hearts and brings out the best and the worst in all of us.
My passion, aside from writing, is music. I love praise music and we head a praise team in our local church. The words of the music speaks to me as much as words that are written and spoken. I have attempted from time to time to put poetry to music, but failed miserably. I am too much of a perfectionist and want the words to rhyme exactly, which doesn't always work in writing lyrics to songs.
We have 4 children (2 boys, 2 girls), 7 grandchildren (5 girls, 2 boys) and one great-grandSON and reside in South Florida.
My passion is ...
praise music; writing; my husband and family
My parents always told me ...
be yourself
My childhood ambition ...
to write a book; be a preacher's wife;
My favorite memory ...
time spent on our farm
Why I write ...
it's something that frees me, lets what's inside flow onto the paper
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
I mostly enjoy reading mystery fiction, the Harmony series by Phillip Gulley and, of course, my Bible; I love to watch sunsets, NASCAR and Braves baseball; I enjoy listening to praise music and my husband teach and preach
My first job ...
working in my dad's newsstand
My best moment ...
the birth of my children and grandchildren and great grandchild and my marriage to my husband
My inspiration ...
When I read my Bible and see where God used ordinary people for great things, or where He forgives and moves on, then I know that I can do anything. Listening to the words of praise music often inspires me to keep on keepin' on
The morning sunlight danced upon the clear blue of the Lake. Hark! cacophonous chirping of the birds As they slowly awake A slumbering world deep In sleep, A state of calm repose, A state near death: how does God manage THAT, do you suppose? Silver fish leaping through the air... Blue gills, wide-mouth bass Leave ever-widening circles upon This sea of glass. A mallard dives beneath the surface-searching for a breakfast bite. It isn't long before he has a juicy fish in sight! The campers' bacon sizzles, the coffee perks, The smells awake My senses as the dawn breaks Along the peaceful shore...
