About me - Heather Melo

About me

Two years ago I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. He is absolutely amazing and I am astounded at the way he has completely changed my life. My son is incredibly lucky to have a terrific father who I have the privilege of calling my husband. We do not live a fairy tale lifestyle, but we do well with what we've been given.

I started teaching special education ten years ago. Becoming a mother has not only changed me as a person, but as a teacher, as well. During the day I have peace of mind knowing my son is in the care of his grandparents. I can only hope I offer that same peace of mind to the parents of the children who are in my care for hours each day. Six years ago, I decided to obtain permanent certification in both Special and Elementary education. I worked, privately, with a siblings who were classified as having autism; what an amazing experience!

As a child, I loved to write. Some writers can explain exactly why they enjoy the art of writing; I cannot. I do know that I love words and information. I love how some authors link words together to form a melody; like incidental music. I cannot pinpoint one reason why I enjoy translating thoughts into text and seeing it come to life on a blank sheet.

I'm interested to see what I have to contribute to this site! I have ideas, but I wonder what I will turn out. Hmmm.... only time will tell. I cannot wait to begin!

Manifestation Determination states that if a child's behavior is determined to be a manifestation of their disability, he/she cannot be disciplined in a typical manner. That, in no way, means the child is not held accountable. Children who are classified are serviced in self-contained rooms, in most districts. Special Needs students should no...
