One of the most effective, and yet most ridiculed, ways to catch a salmon is snagging. As far as I know, this is only legal in Alaska, and even there only in salt water. I run a fish camp every year on Prince of Wales island in Alaska, and can finally say I have somewhat mastered the art of "snagging". I can see why some people might think it's a little inhumane...I mean, well, you're basically ripping a huge, sharp, treble hook through the water hoping to catch a salmon anywhere in the side...but let them think that. If you just want to get meat in the freezer, snagging is the way to go! ...
