About me - Kelly Clark

About me

I grew up on a "farmette" in rural Illinois and moved to the Chicago area when I was 18 to attend DeVry University, under the misbegotten assumption that I would one day make my parents proud as a wealthy computer programmer. It didn't take long to discover that in spite of enjoying my high school classes in computer programming where my big projects involved making cartoons of dancing fat guys, corporate programming was not so much fun. I left behind my scholarship and C++, and worked for a few different companies in client services, technical support, and administrative roles. Eventually I got tired of sitting in traffic and rear-ending people all the time and moved back to central IL. What happened there is a long story, but eventually I found myself in Bloomington, IN, living my dream and working as a writer.

I'm here on Helium to develop a pool of writing samples. In my spare time I work on a series of autobiographical short stories that I hope are funny and occasionally inspiring, submit opinion pieces to a local ePaper once in a while, and post rants that are generally political in nature on my blog.

Just to throw in something random, I'm also a nationally certified massage therapist-so if you need something written on massage, I'm your girl.

An article that I read yesterday, here, brings back to mind a mental meditation on everyone's favorite Conservative Harpy and diva of the hysterical right wing, Ann Coulter. Ann Coulter is both interesting and appalling to me on a number of different levels. My gut reaction to her is always disgust. To those of you who enjoy the pleasure of never having heard of her, prepare yourself for my typical completely non-biased summation of her character. Her columns are continually laced with inflammatory truthiness, exaggerated defamation of all things liberal, slander, and slurs of all kinds. M...
