About me - Sandra Cole

About me

I've always enjoyed writing. As a student in high school and college, it always came easily to me. Writing courses in college were among my favorites and most successful. My research papers in grad school were fun for me.  I taught elementary school for ten years in schools in Michigan, Massachusetts, and in Germany and England for the Dept. of Defense Overseas School System. When I was a stay-at-home mom, I took a course by the Institute for Children's Writing and had the final piece I submitted chosen for inclusion in Ranger Rick. I also went back to college and completed two Masters Degrees in Educational Psychology and Guidance and Counseling.  For the next few years I concentrated on writing for children's magazines and had articles published in Jack and Jill, Dolphin Log, Child Life, Teacher, and Junior Trails.  Again, going back to school, I completed a certificate in Technical and Professional Writing.

I went to work as a counselor and instructor in psychology at a community technical college and belonged to the writing workshops there for many years, submitting articles to the college system's yearly pedagogy journal.

Now I'm retired and getting serious about writing again. We travel a great deal and have many very interesting experiences. I hope Helium proves to be a motivating factor. My many interests are sources of things to write about and time is more available. I'm excited to have an outlet for what I write!
