I'm twenty-seven years old and come from a small seaside town in Lancashire, England.
I've always had an interest in languages and the written word, and have written numerous short stories and screenplays over the years for my own amusement.
My other passions are photography and wildlife which I like to combine; which I did whilst at university when I compiled a photographic record of British Tree Species for the department website (sounds geeky but it was good fun, mainly because my dad helped me and now can't pass a tree without trying to figure out what species it is).
I enjoy comedies, especially Seinfeld and various stand-up comics.
Despite having a relatively rare illness that has thus far confounded the best medical minds in the land, I consider myself very lucky in that I have a very supportive family and girlfriend.
Writing is a great outlet for me as I can't do much else at the moment.
If nothing else, I hope Helium will allow me to leave a small impression on the world by contributing my ideas, knowledge and opinions.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln in his address of 1858, "A house divided against itself cannot stand". Lincoln was referring to the imminent civil war and debate over slavery, but the internal wrangling and socio-economic reasons for war in 1860's America were mirrored by the turmoil that was 5th century Central Europe, which saw fall of the Roman Empire. It was more than one cause that led to war in America, and similarly it was more than one cause that led to the fall of the Roman Empire.
In the collapse of any regime there is usually more than one contributory factor and these are usual...
