I am hardly ever at a loss for words! I guess I'm one of those people who "never met a stranger," and I enjoy my relationships with family and friends. I also enjoy writing - putting my thoughts on paper. Helium is a venue that gives my words a voice - and hopefully what I have to say will encourage and bless those who read them.
I live in the Arkansas Ozarks with my husband and two cats. I have a BSE and MSE in elementary education, and I taught kindergarten and first grade for nine years before burnout sent me in search of something else. For 18 years, my husband and I published Workamper News, a magazine and website for RVers who want to find work while traveling. Our "baby" went off to college in the fall of 2005, when we sold the business and turned our attention to other ventures.
I presently write daily devotionals as a service to my church, and these are e-mailed to teenagers and "in-betweeners" - not-quite-teens who are not-quite adults. I have also published a book entitled, "What to Say and Do...When You Don't Know What to Say and Do." As guardian of my nearly 98-year-old grandmother, who still lives alone, I have become versed in Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, nursing homes and medical care for the elderly, and all things pertinent to seniors. My maternal grandparents were nursing home residents for a combined total of seven years, so I know more than enough about nursing homes, hospitals, and patient care.
On happier notes, I love to write music - mostly contemporary Christian genre - and to play the piano and guitar (poorly!). I also love auctions and antiques, and I sell what I can on Etsy.com - check my "store" at www.firecrackerbaby57.etsy.com. You can learn more about me on my blogs at http://auntdebsattic.blogspot.com and http://linensandlids.blogspot.com.
I started a blog for members of the "Sandwich Generation" - those who are caring for senior citizens while caring for a younger family or young persons. It is called "The Deli" and can be viewed at http://delisandwich.blogspot.com Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments there! Also visit The Deli Zone and The Workamping Zone at Helium.com!
Thanks for stopping by! May God bless your day!
My passion is ...
my relationship with Jesus Christ and music
I know too much about ...
caregiving, nursing homes, patient care, Hospice, corn/chocolate allergies, antique glassware
My parents always told me ...
trust in God, and the rest will take care of itself.
My childhood ambition ...
to be an architect or a concert pianist.
My favorite memory ...
our wedding, and the night our first litter of kittens was born.
Why I write ...
I can express everything I am feeling with words, and when I write, nobody has to listen unless they want to!
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
Rick Warren's "The Purpose Driven Church," Max Lucado's "It's Not About Me," and Joel Osteen's "Daily Readings from Become a Better You"; HGTV, MSNBC; Third Day
My first job ...
babysitting
My best moment ...
the moment I *KNEW* I was filled with the Holy Spirit.
My inspiration ...
my strength from God, my husband, the children in my life, and the challenge to make a difference.
"My life is over tomorrow," an acquaintance said... "I turn 40." I laughed as I considered this... "Hmmm... at 42, that means I've been dead for two years!" I don't know why, but my forties didn't bother me. I had my health, a wonderful husband, friends, a good job and a beautiful home. I clogged in a troupe with girls half my age and younger. I wrote music and short stories - the "ole brain" still worked! Sure, parts of my body started to head south and more gray hair sprouted. But overall, the forties truly were not bad! Even though I still have the legs for them, I've given up miniskirt...
