Getting that attention-grabbing opening sentence is always the hardest part for a writer, so suffice for now for me to simply introduce myself. My name is Michael Rausch. A native of Connecticut, I now live outside Boston, Massachusetts. I am married with two daughters; one in college, the other in high school.
I am a television newswriter and have done some some freelance writing as well, mostly in the entertainment field (film reviews; celebrity profiles). At one time, I produced-directed-wrote a movie showcase program on local Boston TV, which gave me the opportunity to indulge in my lifelong passion, researching and writing about film - its history, progression and people.
My other passion is sports. A competitive swimmer as a youth, I am now an avid golfer and workout enthusiast. I enjoy watching virtually any sporting event, although I've never really taken to hockey. Favorite teams are the New York Jets, the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in virtually all college athletics. I admire Tiger Woods, but have a deep fondness for the golfing greats, Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
A lifelong Democrat, my politics lean to the left, although I am not strictly a party-line guy. I tend to listen to both sides, and can be just as critical of liberals as I can conservatives. I also enjoy travel (especially south of the border where I can escape the chill of New England winter), music, cooking, reading (biographies, historical fiction, suspense/techno-thrillers).
That's it for now. I will likely add more to this as it comes to me in the future. I look forward to meeting others here and sharing ideas and thoughts on this crazy thing that compels us - writing.

WALTER HAGEN: THE GODFATHER OF PROFESSIONAL GOLF It was the 1920s. Golf professionals were not treated with the same respect accorded the millionaire college boys of today. No luxurious locker rooms. No access to spacious clubhouses. No sense of equality from the very people who admired and envied their skill and expertise with the golf club, who rather treated them like servants and not the esteemed professionals we laud today. Instead, like second-class citizens, they had to enter locker rooms (not those occupied by the membership) through a back door. The only time they were allowed ent...
