About Taxpayers for Common Sense

Taxpayers for Common Sense (TCS) is a nonpartisan budget watchdog serving as an independent voice for American taxpayers. Founded in 1995, TCS dedicates itself to exposing and ending wasteful and harmful spending in order to create a federal government that better manages taxpayer money according to national interests and democratic values.

TCS believes that the federal budget is about more than just dollars; its about reflecting national priorities and values. Although government waste has always existed, the increasing stream of money and devalued role of fiscal accountability on Capitol Hill has spurred an exponential growth of power-brokering , influence peddling, and improvident spending in Washington. TCS works to ensure that the federal government spends taxpayer dollars efficiently and responsibly by: Eliminating wasteful and harmful programs and subsidies; increasing government transparency and accountability related to the federal budget and appropriations process; developing and promoting solutions to prevent irresponsible subsidies; and rolling back earmarks.

TCS's message of fiscal responsibility and its common sense approach has broad appeal which brings together key decision makers, national groups, and local grassroots organizations from all parts of the political spectrum. For the past decade, TCS has been on the forefront of fiscal policy and is well-known on Capitol Hill and in the news media for its role as an independent government watchdog.
