I am currently on a "brain hiatus" from the car rental industry. Sometimes, I need to step away, do something else and regain my perspective when I am feeling burnt out.

I have always had a knack for writing and joined Helium so that I could challenge myself with something besides the perfect memo. I have the annoying habit of correcting memos and letters that have been sent to me or even ones that I find lying around on someone else's desk or up on a bulletin board. Mind you, I don't ever send the pieces back to the authors with the corrections, I just cover them with red ink.

The owner of the rental car company I was working for would constantly have me review things he had written because he respected my corrections and suggestions. He, like me, is mortified when he realizes too late, that something that he has sent out has a glaring typo or gramatical error. He still sends me things to review for him from time to time, even though I haven't worked for him for a couple of years. It makes me feel good to have that kind of relationship with a former employer. My current employer is now having me review things for him as well.

I would love to have a job as a proofreader or editor. It is a rare day that I do not come across a newspaper article, letter or even a book that doesn't have at least one error in spelling, punctuation or grammar. Until then, I'll just have to be content with my second favorite thing ... writing.

As I have aged, I have discovered a thirst for knowledge that I only wish I had possessed when I was younger. I throw myself into new projects and try to learn everything that I can to be the best that I can be. I decided to learn web page design and spent a year-and-a-half writing the copy and learning to put together my web site http://www.o-towninfo.com. It is an informational site dedicated to the Orlando area.

I am so glad that I found Helium. I forgot how much fun it is to write! Who has time for a good brain hiatus these days anyway?
