The name's Brittany. Brittany Bowen. Born in Connecticut, raised in Maryland, and very experienced in the twisting roads of life. I spent my freshman and sophomore years of college at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia studying Political Science. I then took a year off from school, spending much of my time at Sheppard Pratt Hospital in treatment for depression, PTSD, and an Eating Disorder. I spent October 2007-January 2008 at a treatment center in Arizona and a transitional house in LA for Eating Disorder recovery. I take great pride in my seeking treatment and working towards recovery. The journey has been hard and long, but well worth the effort and trouble. You can't know joy until you've shed some tears. Circumstances determine much of life. It's what you do with your circumstances that determines the quality of that life. Turn your lemons into lemonade!
I've played the piano since age 5 and love to sing at the top of my lungs. I ran cross country in high school and was a member of the varsity sailing team at ODU for a few seasons...as my health permitted. At home, I'm extremely involved in Job's Daughters International and love spending time at events with awesome people and raising money and awareness for the Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment (HIKE). Though the last year has definitely been emotionally draining, it has also led me to my passion. I have discovered a creativity that I had never acknowledged or fostered. I have channeled this passion and ability into a self-owned business-Different Strokes (http://web.mac.com/brittbowen) that I now intend on taking to the next level. I feel so excited and fortunate to have found what I love to do and to have the chance to make my passion my living!

"Oh, I'm sorry, I must be in the wrong room," mutters the nurse as she backs out of my room. "No," I say, "You've got it right." "But I was looking for the woman with the broken hip." "Yep, that would be me." "But you...you must only be 20 years old!" "18, actually." Story of my life. I broke my hip my second semester of college. I was an active little Freshman on a full Navy ROTC scholarship and a member of the University's Varsity Sailing Team. On a rainy day in January, I slipped inside one of the academic buildings and fractured my femur. Of course, no one actually believed that I had ...
