My love of the written language began at an early age when I would scrawl on a sheet of colorful stationary to my grandparents who lived 800 miles from me. At the early age of four, I was inspired to write and modeled my mother, who was an avid letter writer. She would ask me what my scribbles meant and decipher the words on the back of the sheet so my "Mammy" and "Pappy" and Grandma and Grandpa Allen would know what I was saying to them. I would eagerly await the arrival of their letters back to me so I could answer them.
As I grew and started school, my allowance was spent on little rainbow tablets at the dime store, along with a stock of pens, pencils and crayons which I used daily. All through my school years I continued to learn and write. My high school English teacher was a wonderful inspiration, as was my college English professor who provided me with guidance and encouragement in my writing.
Being a very personal person, I have always used writing as an outlet to my thoughts and emotions. I love making cards and scrap booking photos for other people and writing poetry. Most of my inspiration comes from my wonderful family at home and at school. I have been married for thirty years and teaching for eighteen years. I have wonderful children, beautiful grandchildren, loving parents and siblings, and twenty, creative, intelligent fourth grade students to draw from for my inspiration to write. My grandparents are gone now, but their early letters to me still provide a springboard of memories for me to use in my writing.
I believe a person has to keep learning and growing and I do that through my life experiences, reading and writing. Although teaching children has been a life line for me, my hope is to be able to spend more time on my writing and more time with my family. Perhaps this writing adventure will allow me to do just that.

Wiggle, squirm, Wiggle, squirm. Inching along Like a worm. Clomp, bump, Clomp, bump. Riding along on a camel hump. Scritch, scratch, Scritch, scratch. Stretching and clawing Like a cat. Roll, dig, Roll, dig. Lie in the mud Like a pig. Slither, wait, Slither wait. Coiling up Like a snake. Flutter, glide, Flutter, glide. Sailing around Like a butterfly. Flip, swish, Flip, swish. Swimming around Like a fish.
