: About Me

Hello: I am Charles M. Day III. I was born in Memphis Tennessee on October 12, 1950. My formative years were spent in Mississippi. The Love I have for writing began with my stepmother Elisabeth Ann, an English and literature teacher. I developed an appreciation for poetry because it gave me an outlet to express what I felt deep inside.
I joined the service in 1969 and spent 4 years in the US Navy during the Vet Nam War. While in the navy I was an Original crew member of the USS Coronado an LPD, (Landing platform Dock).
I now live with my wife and two of my three children in a small town is western Kansas. Where farm land and tumble weeds replace the beloved pine and hard wood Forrest of my youth.
The title of my first book, "Thoughts of The Transplanted Mississippian" reflects my attitude that no matter where I am my heart is always in Mississippi.
The Transplanted Mississippian" is a poetic slice of of a time in my life during the years of the G. W. Bush Administration. During this time I made it a habit to e-mail the President and other Government officials with encouragements and sometimes strong opinions on national events. Each of these e-mails I ended in a poem which made it clear what my position was and it reflected my deep belief in GOD.
Among the poetry I have written were dedications to my children, my wife, father, the Armed Services, the President, First Lady and others. Several poems have received the "Editors Choice Award" from Poetry.com. I was honored to have six of my poems displayed in the Pentagon.
All of these E-mails with poetry are in my book which was published through Lulu Enterprises Inc. The Book has two forms. Poetry can bring tears to the eyes, pride to the human heart and concern or reality to the mind. Poetry is a way to say that which can't be said any other way. Poetry allows the mind to free itself from the earthly bonds and sore higher than eagle or dive deeper than any fish.
