AN END Broken and overhung The branches of the leaning trees swing Mildly as the passing breeze strokes them As we once did. Their skin, dry and peeling Breaks away at the slightest touch And falls, as does my heart Into the ground With my memories of us. We used to come here much But now we are Alike these trees Shattered and somehow rundown Our love as tired and aging. Remember the ice-wind raging As we clung Like the leaves to the branches; To each other And by their feet in the summer Where we used to meet Undercover.
