Karla has a bachelor's degree in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine, and a law degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. She is currently practicing in Immigration Law in Downtown Los Angeles. She is the second daughter of six. Her parents are Ruben and Esthela Lopez.

I dreamed of you last night, you were sitting on the couch, watching us - your family, content with your life. I looked at you, and wondered why we lived through such agony - when actually it was all a misunderstanding, and in fact you hadn't left us.
It was strange really, and we all sort of made a joke about it. We were over it, and extremely happy you were still among us. We shook our heads, hugged you, laughed, and had the sensation of wanting to give you a noogie... sort of like: "you silly goose, you gave us a scare, don't ever do that again."
