Hi. My name is Valerie Williams, and I am delighted to be a member of Helium. My writing career began when I was around eight years old; I remember writing my first short story, binding it up in ribbons and presenting it, with illustrations and all, to my parents. I have a box full of stories I wrote as a kid, teenager, and young adult, so suffice it to say, writing has been a very important part of who am I.
I never thought I could make a career out of it, so my professional life was in the world of mortgage banking. I spent a number of years in managerial positions in this field, and though I enjoyed it, I always found myself, in my spare time, writing. I finished my Bachelor of Arts degree while still working, and then I took a professional writing course in children's literature. I'm delighted that I have found an avenue such as Helium where I can write, where I can be critiqued, and my writing skills strengthened.
I married my husband in 1997 and we now have two beautiful children; a son, age seven and a daughter, who is four. I am pretty much a stay-at-home mom now, though I do work part-time. Pretty much all of my articles are centered in the religious/spirituality channel because my first love is to my Father in heaven. However, I also love to write fiction, and soon hope to be writing articles in this channel as well. And because I love to challenge myself, I'm hoping to be seen in other channels soon.
Thank you for visiting my About Me page. I hope you find my articles interesting, articulate, and thought-provoking. I look forward to and appreciate feedback, so feel free to contact me if you have comments or questions about anything I've written.

Wisdom is taught throughout the Scriptures as something that man needs to obtain; that it is more desirable than rubies; that fools lack wisdom but the wise are restored by it. Solomon, when asked by the Most High God what God should give him, asks not for riches or long life, but instead asks for wisdom. David tells us that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. What does he mean by this? This article will discuss what David means by this statement, using the Scriptures to come to a clearer understanding of David's words, what wisdom is, how we can obtain it, and how to apply it to o...
