Forty thousand foals are slaughtered every year for meat. Sixty thousand pregnant mares are denied exercise, given limited water, and restrained in eight foot by four foot stalls for six months of the year. Eventually they too are slaughtered for meat. Why? For PMU - pregnant mare urine. The urine is extracted from mares on over 300 PMU ranches, most situated in Canada, with a few situated in the mid-west states.
