My biological clock is ticking. Not because I want children. . . . Been there done that and have inhabited the empty-nest exceptionally well, for quite a few years. I'm racing against time to become a successful novelist before I have to go to "the home". My body is already preparing for that day with pouchy, squirrel jaws, and chicken neck. I could take flight with my sagging upper arms; not to mention, other sagging parts. The years are dwindling away as my skin begins to look and feel like a mauve, crepe mother-of-the-bride dress.
I'd have tons of great material for a wild-sex romance novel; naked butts strutting down the hall, hanging out the back of open gowns heading for the sexual orgy in room 202 or was it 102 or 201? Fast-paced NASChair races in the halls. I'd have 78 million "boomers and beyonds" for my market. My plan is to never give up, even if I have to continue my writing quest in the nursing home. Of course, drooling applesauce on my keyboard could be a problem.
In the mean time I'm hoping to increase my income in a different genre - freelancing. My writing expertise, spanning more than thirty years, has primarily been centered on advertising copy and public relations material for clients of the photography business I co-owned. The work I created commercially was used in brochures, sales support materials, catalogs, media releases, speeches, commercials for radio and television, scripts for slide presentations, video productions, and interactive programs. In addition to the creative work provided to the business, I've written two novels, and started two others. All unpublished as yet. The other day I had a fortune cookie that said "My talents would soon be recognized by the world." I mean. . . . Is that a sign or what? Look for me on the New York Times Best-Selling List soon.
Writing is a passion, but my love of animals sometimes tips the scale in the other direction. I do love them all, but dogs, horses and cats are at the top of my list. I have a 100 pound Akita, Nikki, a seven pound Chihuahua mix, Dee Dee and Daisy Cat. They're all rescued animals. I also have a children's' pony ride business. My star is Spud. He has quite a repertoire of tricks but I don't dare call him a trick pony. He prefers "performing pony". Thinks it's more professional. I don't ride much anymore. I have a hard enough time staying on my feet, let alone a horse. One last thing. . . .spay and neuter your pets. Adopt a homeless pet and support your local animal shelter. They can always use financial help and volunteers. WRITE ON!

I moved into the city. What a serious mistake. I miss the country quiet and the stillness of the lake, The symphony of tree frogs, fish jumping in the water, I miss my dearest Mother for I am nature’s daughter. The soothing sound of horses as they munch their daily grain, The grooming of the equines as I brush their tangled mane. It filled my soul with goodness as I watched them in the field, Heads down, tails switching, all anxieties they healed. I’d watch the black snake on her belly, slither in the grass She’d pay me no attention as she made her silent pass. Fox and de...
