I am from Central Florida not too far south of the the Space Center on a barrier island. My Dad was instrumental in seeing that the early rockets and astronauts made it safely up and back, so my world was very much centered on Fl. and the Caribbean.
I did my tour in the Navy and ended up back in Central Fl. This time in the middle of the state. I raised my kids in some historically significant areas and got very involved in the National Historical Register. We helped save a lot of buildings and businesses and one whole downtown. I worked in the construction business and taught folks how to repair their buildings without destroying the historical significance of them.
When my house burned down, I moved onto my boat and went into boat work. I eventually ended up with several boats. Always one to live on, one to play one and some in repair getting ready to resell.
I am disabled now, but I still do a lot of volunteer work and serve on Boards etc. I do wood carvings and make lace and crochet etc. I hate to be idle. There is little chance of that happening!
Sixteen years ago an acquaintance of mine came to me and said that there was an African Grey Parrot that was in trouble. She was not actually being abused, but she was being terribly neglected. So, we went to see if there was a way to extricate this bird from a bad situation. The bird was about a year old and was living in a garage with little to no human interaction. She was fairly clean and had food and water. She had little ability to speak which is very sad in a Grey since they are the most vocal of the Parrots.
