About me - Zipporah

About me

I am a "strong black woman" who enjoys having a "good time". As a child I developed an inner strength because I knew no one would be there to catch me if I should fall.

During my childhood because resources were limited, I acquired an ability to exist with the bare necessities needed to sustain life. My childhood and teen years were spent in North Louisiana where my family was "very, very poor". We sustained ourselves with the food we cultivated and the stringent life in which we lived. Our clothes went through three cycles: clothes which were wore to church and special occasions, clothes we wore to school and clothes in which we played. Clothes we wore to church eventually became clothes we wore to school which eventually became clothes in which we played. We did not purchase clothes in which to play.

Often we were unable to afford facilities which others took for granted. We had no indoor plumbing. We obtained our drinking water from a backyard well. We were so excited when we were finally able to afford indoor plumbing. Thoughts of the excitement we experienced when my grandparents purchased a bathtub bring back loving memories. Those experiences and others helped me acquire an inner strength.

A champion of the poor, I seek equal justice for all regardless of their race or economic circumstances. I am a champion of those who reside in our prisons. I speak for them because of a belief that they are often forgotten. Our present judicial system needs revamping.

Some complain about the intrusion of government into our lives. They fail to acknowledge that the federal government was forced to intervene in the lives of its citizens when the upper level ignored the needs of those less fortunate than they. Because our upper level failed to ensure the education of all Americans regardless of their wealth or status, the federal government was forced to intervene. The federal government was forced to provide schooling for "all" citizens whether rich or poor, black or white

A response to those who bemoan the status of our economy is "regardless of what happens, we will survive". Those who have always lived with more than enough might me required to learn to live with enough and maybe less than enough. Many will be forced to separate needs from desires. The two are not the same. As a child I learned to identify those things which I needed as well as those which I merely "desired".

Because of earlier experiences and my interpretation of those experiences, I would describe myself as a moderate. I believe we can give too much support and we can give too little support. The goal is to give the right amount of support. Too much support can weaken someone while too much support can smother them. Life is what we make it. It can be an exciting experience or it can be a discouraging one which provides little happiness. The choice is ours.

Religion & Spirituality > Christian Doctrine & Issues The Temptation in the Garden of Eden

We are often reminded of the temptation of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden but the question is  what was the temptation.  The temptation of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden goes beyond merely eating a fruit.  The question was whether to obey or disobey God.   The question also became whether to trust or distrust. Like Adam and Eve we are tempted when we are enticed to do wrong because of a belief or promise  of some pleasure or something to be gained. Would Adam and Eve obey God who told them not to eat the fruit and further warned them that if ...
