About me

History:
I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, then moved to Columbus, Ohio and finally Seattle, Washington before coming back to Louisville for college. I also spent time in Montpellier, France doing a work exchange program.

Education:
I attended the University of Louisville for both undergraduate and graduate studies. I received BA degrees in French and History in 2003 and an MA in French in 2005. I will be receiving an MA in Teaching - Secondary Education with teaching certificates in French, Chemistry, and Biology this May.

Work:
I started off working for my dad at his injection molding business. When I moved to Louisville for college I spent seven years working for my aunt's printing company in the office, mainly doing customer service, proofreading, and copy writing. I also spent a year as a Product Development Lab Technician at an aluminum paint pigment facility and worked as a bartender for extra money to attend graduate school. I have been in a two year Alternative Certification program since summer 2006, during which I work as a teacher while attending school to get certification. I taught Chemistry and Integrated Science at a high school in Frankfort, KY last year and I'm currently teaching high school Chemistry and Biology in Louisville while finishing up my second master's degree. I also tutor and score science assessments in my spare time.

Hobbies:
I enjoy traveling, reading, writing, and ultimate frisbee. I try to travel at least 4 times a year, and the schedule I have as a teacher affords me that opportunity. I also participate in ultimate frisbee leagues in Louisville and on a co-ed traveling team. I don't get to read as much as I would like, except for on breaks from school. I have always enjoyed writing and wrote for the university newspaper for several years while an undergraduate.

Nowadays calculators are so prevalent that most students wouldn't know what to do if they didn't have one to help them work out their calculations. However, they might find themselves in a situation where they don't have access to a calculator or aren't allowed to use one, and in these cases, knowing some math "tricks" can come in very handy.

TIP #1
When multiplying or dividing with numbers ending in zeros, drop the zeros and do the multiplication/division problem, then add the zeros back.

Examples:
400 x 200 = 4 x 2 = 8 (and add back the 4 zeros) = 8000
400/20 = 4/2 = 2 (and ad...
