About me - Bryant Greenlaw

About me

I was born and raised in Bayside and St. Andrews, New Brunswick. I loved growing up in a small community, but I also wanted to travel and see the world.

Growing up I was the little girl who spent hours outside, getting dirty, driving on a tractor, in the garage where my grandfather was a mechanic, and loved adventure.
My family roots will always be in the Charlotte County, New Brunswick area. No matter where I go in the world, it will always be home.

As I got older and spread my wings I found myself moving to North Carolina, getting married and having a child all within a year. Some may think that is too early to get married, but they (my husband of now 11 years and children) are the best thing that ever happened to me.
I married into the military. My husband was an active duty Marine when we met. Once our son was 3 months old, we found ourselves being stationed in Iwakuni, Japan for three years. Never in a million years would I have ever dreamed that a small town girl like me would ever have the opportunity to not only visit but have the opportunity to live in Japan. I fell in love with it immediately. I soaked up the Japanese culture and learned everything I could. I hope that one day, my husband and I will be able to take our son back to Japan so he will be able to see the country he lived in for 3 years.

Being a military spouse was very rewarding. I knew exactly what the young Marines were going through as far as being so far away from home for the first time. I knew what the wives were going through and so I took it as an opportunity to give back and provide some knowledge. Every Christmas and every holiday our apartment was full of young, single marines, who like us, were unable to go home and see their families. It was the first time that I witnessed a family unit take care of one another and there be no blood relation. It will be something I will have with me always and forever.

In 2000 our family moved back to the states where we now reside in Athens, Georgia. We love Georgia, and after my husband retired from the Marine Corps we decided to stay here and raise our family.

I do come from a long line of writers. I would consider my family very artistic and creative. My mom was a columnist in the 80's back in my home town for genealogy, she wrote poetry, and short stories and was just amazing. There are also more poets and short story writers in my family. I think it is great to be a part of a family with so much creativity.

I also love photography, quilting, genealogy/history, reading, being with my family and so many more things.
Being a part of the Helium community is a wonderful experience for me. My writings up until now have all been done for family, school work, or just personal. I hope to learn and enhance my writing skills with critiques and suggestions from fellow writers. I feel we are always able to learn something no matter how experienced we may think we are in areas of our lives. There is always another perspective, another resolve, another way of doing things. I hope readers and also fellow writers will also be able to learn something from me in my writing.

"Fool!" said my Muse to me, "look in thy heart, and write."
