I'm 24, British (so I will not pander to the American spell-check on this site!) and opinionated... I studied Egyptology and Ancient History at the University of Wales, Swansea and received my BA in 2005. Since then, I have drifted about from job to job, working on various creative writing projects. I am currently in the process of joining the British Army, hopefully as an officer in the Intelligence Corps.
I'm both a writer and an artist. I write original fantasy fiction, which I hope to publish sometime. I am working on a 4-book fantasy series in a setting which deviates greatly from the usual medieval-ish. I also write fanfiction as a hobby, mostly for the Star Wars and Hannibal Lecter fandoms, but I've dabbled in Harry Potter, The Wicker Man and Warhammer 40,000 as well. My art is mostly fantasy-based, and I'm working on the concept art and storyboards for a friend's graphic novel.
In other news, I enjoy fantasy role-playing - specifically D&D and Star Wars, but also any fun system that comes to my attention. I also like to tinker with systems, adapting them to existing 'universes' such as His Dark Materials or Warhammer 40,000. In essence, I am a geek.
I'm interested in mostly everything, but specifically ancient and pre- history, ancient and modern literature, astronomy, geology, fossils, art of most types, film-making, strategy games and heavy metal music. I'm an incurable Star Wars nut with a distinct fondness for the Dark Side ;)
I recently did one of those MBTI-Jung typology tests, which told me I was an INTP. Once I looked it up, I realised that it explained a lot. I like all sorts of very random and apparently unconnected intellectual pursuits and disciplines, and am absolutely hopeless at committing myself to just one of them. There's just too much fun stuff out there!
I joined this site to give myself motivation to write meaningful and specific articles instead of just sitting around pontificating about these aforementioned random things. Discipline, that is what I'm after.

Ancient Egypt maintained one of the longest continuous civilisations in the world, from the first unification of Egypt by ancient warrior-kings c.3100 BC to the last native Egyptian ruler in c.343 BC. This is a huge length of time, and throughout Egypt remained, for the most part, remarkably stable and consistent in its culture. Egyptologists commonly divide this timeframe up into smaller chunks known as Kingdoms, with Intermediate Periods of social change and civil unrest between them. This chronology runs thus (all dates are circa):
The Predynastic (prehistoric) Period to c.3100 BC
