Creative Writing > Poetry Poetry: Love

Love is like a Cheez- It Love is like a Cheez- It, holding all that flavor, but you have to bite it to get a taste. A simple cracker, compressed with cheddar, a nice party filler that goes well with drink, to ease the salty nature. And though it may seem a very lofty endeavor to eat a family sized box in one sitting, all alo...

Society & Lifestyle > Social Values & Norms Characteristics that make a family-friendly community

The front porch can be one of the most or least used objects on or in a house. It seems really to depend on the family, on whether or not the front porch has a place. Some people see it as a place where families can come together. Where the grandfather can tell stories with funny endings to their grandchildren. Where Ice Tea...

Creative Writing > Poetry Poetry: Black history month

Robert Hayden Who has heard the voice? Who knows the verse, on a quiet Sunday afternoon that waits silently? No one has seen. Who has learned? of the champion from Detroit, the Laurette of America, the subtle poet of a history pacing the halls of the black mind? What has been the pride? of a near blind man, who took the bus ...

Creative Writing > Poetry Poetry: Philosophy

Knowing is an Apple Pie Startled by a sound on the edge of night, keeping a slight rhythm in the focus of life, and wondering, oh wondering; How I take another day? How I beat another pulse? How the moon glides slowly across the sky, hanging low like some kind of conscious, hanging low like some kind of mystery, low like a c...

Arts & Humanities > Philosophical Concepts The secret to perpetual happiness

It is very easy to overlook the easiest and most obvious aspect of being happy. Happiness is a choice. Yes, that is right, one can choose to be happy. Many times people look at formulas and quick answers, but in reality they will only work as well as someone chooses to make them work. For example, it common to see the highly...

Arts & Humanities > Schools of Thought Is there one right religion?

A Personal Connection To Religion A Defense For Pluralism Many times it can be hard to see how there can be so many religions in the world. Especially since they all claim to be the right choice. In many Western theological stances it is a wrong to believe in something other than what their belief system believes in. Plurali...

Society & Lifestyle > African-American Issues Negro spirituals and their legacy in American culture

Music as an art form can seemingly come from any place, at anytime, from anyone. The roots of modern music have grown deep into the American tradition. This tradition has been developed by artist from generation to generation. Passed down through families, education and most of all passion. Today's music is so much influence...

Creative Writing > Poetry Poetry: Out of bounds

Life is a Baseball Out of Bounds Life is a baseball out of bounds. When grounded in foul actions, words, or thoughts it becomes a strike, but can't get you out. Line driven into 3rd base seats may hurt somebody, but usually causes amusement. Over swinging makes a big mistake, for when someone catches you, you look stupid. Bu...

Politics, News & Issues > Politics in the Middle & Near East Was Israel's invasion of Gaza justified?

The decision of going to war is not one that a country take lightly. Israel does not choose to go to way in Gaza, but out of the need there is a justification. When everybody is wrong, then who is right? Both side like to point the finger and bring justification for their actions. Hamas is a terrorist organization. This is o...

Creative Writing > Poetry Poetry: Wet pavement

Wet Pavement Wet pavement from a sprinkler head, weighs my concious mind like a book resting on an empty shelf motionless, letting the sun evaporate the deeper color once held by the wet pavement. Wet pavement from a soft summer rain, waits for clouds to cease like working people waiting for Friday, misting and steaming off ...
