I eat, I sleep, I cook, I draw, I paint...oh yes, and I write.
I suppose I should elaborate somewhat (I will keep it pithy). After abandoning my ambitions of becoming an astronaut while watching the Challenger explode prior to reaching orbit, I pursued a fine arts degree. That plan was derailed for an appreciation of fine cuisine and for the next two decades I would ply my trade as a professional chef, drawing and painting as a hobby. Most recently I have discovered a passion for writing and have set out upon a quest to do so in earnest.
I also love someone very special: my true love, best friend, soul mate and life partner...some might call her my wife, but that single word doesn't quite do her justice. An amazing woman who is teaching me what 1 Corinthians 13 love is truly about (one day at a time I might add). She and I have been through more trials and tests than we ought...but she has stood by me nonetheless. A wholly remarkable, beautiful woman.
The fine arts idea seems at this time to be simmering on a back burner, remaining as it were a hobby. There are, I should suppose, worse hobbies. It has to fight for significance among my other endeavors (such as reading). In light of my dire lack of copious amounts of spare time, however, its fate seems uncertain. Especially since I cannot help but write, write and write some more.
There I go but by the Grace of God, where angels fear to tread.
My passion is ...
Living life and leaving a legacy.
I know too much about ...
Role-playing games and the history of cuisine. Having played RPGs for nearly 30 years I can still quote rules from many of them verbatim. One of the side effects of having a mind like a steel trap in regards to trivia and minutia. Another is having a fascination for food consumption and food preparation. It seems over all that I have a great deal of knowledge on a few subjects and a little knowledge on a great many subjects. For whatever that might be worth.
My parents always told me ...
Cleanliness is next to godliness. And that you can always judge a man by how firmly he shakes your hand, how steady he meets your gaze and how steadfastly he sticks to his word.
My childhood ambition ...
To be an astronaut. Buck Rogers to be exact.
My favorite memory ...
When I was baptized years ago on father's day. It was an awesome day.
Why I write ...
Rom 11:29 "For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance."
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
Books: Jack Hayford's "The Key to Everything" and Frank Peretti's "Piercing the Darkness." Film: Treasure Planet, Iron Man, Amazing Grace, The Passion, LOTR, One Night with the King, old movies with John Wayne and Douglas Fairbanks. Music: Skillet, POD, Disciple, Jars of Clay, Red, Pillar.
My first job ...
Wood cutting for my parent's next-door neighbor. Winters in New England can make you or break you: it takes a hardy individual to weather winter up there (hardier than I am at any rate).
My best moment ...
Saying the sinner's prayer. It was an etrernal decision.
My inspiration ...
The Bible. The oldest book of its kind whose author is still alive.

The office was small, over-lit by fluorescent bulbs. It was at the end of a short hallway, lined with linoleum tiles that were stained yellow with age and use. The only thing that was significant about the hallway was that it was behind a pair of wooden doors, which seemed in stark contrast to the rest of the antique mall. That, and the fact that there was a sign that marked it as a ministry office. I drove over 200 miles that morning to be here in this office in a tiny suburb of Dallas. I had waited nearly two months for the appointment I had secured with the ministry team that would be m...
