Hello,
I am excited to be a a part of Helium.com and to be able to have an outlet for writing about my favorite things. And, I have many favorite things. You an check out one of these at http://50sfunk.zoofer.com. I write a blog called When Divorce Recovery Lasts Too Long.
I am 56 years old..soon to be 57. YIKES! How time flies when you go to school for 40 years. I have an undergraduate degree in elementary education and special education, a Masters degree in Learning Disabilities, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology.
I have taught in elementary and secondary schools, at the Unversity of Missouri, and as an adjunct professor at Columbia College (Columbia, MO).
I spent 12 years working as a Child Development Specialist at a psychiatric hospital. I spent 2 years working as a Learning Skills Specialist in a Rehabilitation Hospital. I spent 6 years working as a bureaucrat. I spent 6 years as the Director of the Center for Innovations in Special education at the University of Missouri. I am currently working as a consultant around the country in the field of systems development and children's programs.
I have 6 children ...5 sons and a daughter and recently became a grandmother. My husband works as an assistive technology specialist helping folks with mobility issues become more functional in taking care of their own needs.
My husband and I are avid, and maybe even addicts, collectors of retro, atomic, Danish Modern items. We have had an E-Bay business for over 8 years selling this era of items. We have also had booths in wonderful antique malls in Chicago and Kansas City.
It has been a little difficult to be into 50s, 60, and 70s era collectibles living in the mid part of the country. This part of the world is still into primitives.
When we go to auctions and bid on our type of items, people laugh and say crude things. we don;t care though because we know there are others like us out there who love the post WWII era style and imagination and have soul mates all around the globe through a E-Bay business.
OK, enough about me. Hope your 2007 is great!

There is no known cure for autism or any of the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) but with early intervention and the proper treatment, individuals with this autism can live independent and productive lives. A combination of therapies must be used in order to provide the appropriate intervention for an individual. One must understand that all treatment therapies are life-long and may be altered to enhance the life of a person with autism. Communication therapy is used to help someone with autism who is unable to communicate effectively or efficiently verbally and/or nonverbally. Picture Exch...
