In my 25-odd years as an advertising copywriter, that little maxim was drilled into me. Likewise, I drilled it into writers who worked under my supervision.
And now, I'm passing that little gem onto you.
Please don't be turgid when you write. Sparkle! Take time to understand what you're writing about. Keep your sentences crisp and bring your subject alive!
You don't have to be an expert, but it's good to talk to them. Find out the facts, and turn them into a fascinating story. The biggest compliment someone can pay a writer is not "Gee, you're a good writer" but "Gee, I never knew that could be so interesting, I'd love to find out more about it."
Computers are truly fascinating when you take a deeper look at them. Have you ever stopped to think that everything a computer can do, from displaying full colour photographs to playing your favourite music, is all done basically by adding gazillions of zeros and ones together at amazing speeds?
Now perhaps you'll understand why I'm the sub-channel steward for Computers & Technology: Hardware.
