Martha Rhodes is the author of "Lose Weight Cheating on the Cabbage Soup Diet." Martha started her career working on the production side of the newspaper/magazine industry working for such publications as The Thrifty Nickle, The New Mexico Independent and as a Production Coordinator for Reddy Communications, a consulting/information research group for public utilities coordinating the production of 60 yearly publications. For more than two years, she was the Owner/Editor of The Chaparral News and it's Anthony Edition, a weekly news/classified ads publication in Chaparral, New Mexico with a circulation of appx. 6500. As a freelance writer Martha has had articles published in various newspapers in New Mexico and has produced informational products for political interests within the state.

My childhood ambition ...

I wanted to be an oceanograher, but alas we lived in the desert. I also wanted 14 children, after discovering how much they cost - I settled for two.

My favorite memory ...

1)My dad went fishing. My daughter, about 2 saw the fish on a line in a bucket and decided to take them for a walk. She drug them around by their "leash" like our dog happily singing. Red headed, in a pink & white polka dot sundress walking fish. It was too precious. 2) My son was 10 with a friend who had family problems. My son said "Mommy when I'm a famous baseball player I'm gonna buy a hospital and anyone who doesn't want their kids can bring them to you." I felt appreciated as a parent.

Why I write ...

I write to share, to make contact, to hope that somehow it makes a difference.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Most of the time, I watch Fox Business News or some other news show. I do watch a few reality shows, "Dancing with the Stars," "Project Runway" and my favorite "Top Chef." Generally, I read cookbooks but here lately I'm reading a lot of Helium in order to rate. Music these days is more noise than anything, so I prefer to leave the radio off.

My first job ...

My mother became ill when I was a young child. I was the eldest and became responsible for raising my siblings as my father had two jobs in order to support us. That was my first job. My first paying job was as a typesetter for the Thrifty Nickle through a work program in high school.

My best moment ...

As with most mothers, the birth of my children. I am priviledged to have been chosen to be their mother. The world is truly a better place with them in it.

My inspiration ...

I am inspired by life and the drama of it.

It is only a 3 -4 hr. trip but the trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico from Chaparral, New Mexico which is a small community just north of El Paso, Texas can find many interesting stops. There are two primary ways that to travel to Albuquerque from the El Paso area. One is up on I-25 through Las Cruces, T or C, Socorro and on into Albuquerque; and the other is on US 54 to Corona and then on state roads 42 and 41 through Willard and Moriarity and then on I-40 through the Tijeras Canyon. The more direct route is on I-25 but the US 54 trip is more scenic.
