About me - Jan Renders

About me

I am English, fifty-several and slightly bonkers. I have two delightful off-spring who are now making their own way in the world, leaving me to rediscover the person I was before I became "Mum". The trouble is I can't remember!
I have spent most of my working life as a teacher / tutor/lecturer - all the same thing really, except that I researched and published as a University lecturer. My main area of professional research interest is Information Systems methodologies and eLearning.
I am at a cross roads now and have decided to leave the safety net of my working experience and jump right into a new life - all or nothing! Scary but exciting.
A helpful young thing in an employment agency took one look at my CV and thoughtfully concluded that I have "no transferable skills". I laughed out loud, went home and got cross - how dare she! I e-mailed her a challenge to get me an interview - anywhere, anytime and anything, but not teaching. I'm still waiting to hear from her.
In the meantime I have applied for a number of jobs, been short-listed for several, offered one and have more interviews on the horizon.
I am in a position to choose, but I want to write. I was short-listed from over one hundred applicants for a job as a writer for a local charity, but got unlucky at interview - nearly made it but there was someone better. So here I am - I am going to practice.
Oh, and I have just started a blog -see mylinks - have a look and please leave comments if you have time and inclination. This is my first blog and it is a lonely place at the moment!
