He stared at me with dread,
Toddling further from my grasp.
Eyebrows red,
High-pitched whine
Fighting sleep and naptime.

I laid a blanket on the floor
Fluffed a pillow
And sat,
Wisely watching the dancing fairies.

His curious face peeked into the room.
I smiled.
Cautiously, he sat,
Eyes heavy and defiant.
As he stared at the fairies
His head tucked into my lap,
And his eyelids fell shut.

I sat, marveling at his lovely face
So peaceful, and his baby snores,
So smooth.
Then switched my lap for the pillow,
Turned the fairies down,
And left the room.
