About me

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Live life to the fullest, be present in this moment and to have fun with it...even if it's a mundane and unpleasent task. Have you ever tried smiling and humming a tune while "pooper-scooping"? Try it you might giggle and have fun!

I know too much about ...

Useless facts and quirky trivia. I can be heard saying "ya know what I seen, heard or read the other day?...." I love to people watch. As a result I spend way too much time analyzing human behaviour. Also I know way more human biology and medical jargon than I need for a lifetime. Due to a physical disability present from birth, I am fleunt in "medical-ease" and can rival any student studying my particular specialties.

My parents always told me ...

"Never ask a question unless you are prepared to hear ALL the possible answers!" The basic reason for this, you may not get the answer you expect, so be prepared to hear another one. In some cases this may be a 3rd, 4th or even 5th option you would never have considered. Thus, don't judge anothers actions and decisions. You will never truly know their motavations. You can only guess. Second, humour is essential to surviving this thing called life, with any measure of your sanity still intact.

My childhood ambition ...

To see a book with my name as the author. Yes, I know I am the only child on earth to have this unique childhood ambition! I was a real pain as an adolescent. I am a thinker and loved (and still do) as a teen to play the "Devil's Advocate". No matter the issue or my personal opinion on the subject, I'd take the other side just for fun.

My favorite memory ...

Having my little sister ride around on the back of my electric wheelchair or on my lap. Now that she has grown we love to joke that we aren't sure HOW she learned to walk herself as she rode my chair constantly and had no need for walking. Maybe she learned after I moved to my own place?

Why I write ...

I love words. I love the way that words sound both when I read them and hear others read aloud. I love how the same word can have a different meaning and essence depending on its context and usage. I love the fact context and usage are dependant on the writers' own experiences.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Anything I can get my hands on. I am a sponge waiting to absorb. I need more usless trivia and knowledge to dazzle friends with.

My first job ...

My first job was working at a local disability resource centre. This was my first exposure to adults with similar circumstances who were leading happy, healthy and productive lives. Some of those people have been role models and directly influenced my current career path. I have completed the Developmental Service Worker program, to assist those with an intellectual disability. Currently I am working on furthering my education and completing my BA in "Disability Studies".

My best moment ...

Recieving my friend and constant companion, Zena, a fully trained "Special Skills Dog" who helps with physical assistance. Words are insufficient to describe our unique bond together. Others before me have tried, but until I experienced it for myself I did not understand.

My inspiration ...

My personal life philosophy is that I can not control what happens to me, but I can control my attitude towards it. My "Disability" has come up frequently in this page. This is because my Cerebral Palsy is a part of who I am and my experiences with it have greatly shaped who I am and how I see the world. It is by no means all of who I am. One final thought, instead of "Why me?" I ask "Why not me? Maybe I have the exact strengths to match my challenges perfectly!

As you toss and turn, you glance at the clock for the third time in 45 minutes. It reads 4:37, you sigh and stare at the ceiling, then think, "I have to be up in a little over an hour and I haven't slept a wink". Frustrated you turn on your side. Everyone can relate to having those sleepless nights spent tossing and turning only to wake in the morning totally exhausted. For occasional sleepless nights over the counter medications are OK, but they should never be used long term unless advised by a medical professional, as they can be habit forming. If you suffer from frequent insomnia or wi...
