Well, my name is Rita Joyce and I'm a student currently attending a 2-year-college, working on an Associates Degree in Networking/Information Technology. Since I have such a strong appreciation for technology, then I figured this would be the perfect major for me.
I am what someone would call a "culture vulture", for I am the type of individual that is into all kinds of underground scenes or subcultures(some of the stuff that I enjoy in my spare time would be watching foreign movies (Latin American, European, Asian, African, etc; listening to "non-mainstream" forms of music such as Goth, industrial, electronica, positive/political hip-hop, free-jazz, contemporary blues, and even punk rock. Another one of my favorite hobbies would be learning ALL I can about computer technology, of course, since this is exactly what I'm studying in school at the moment.
And I can sometimes be deeply into politics. I'm not interested in the so-called "culture wars", which in my opinion is nothing but a waste of time, energy, and effort. Whoever becomes the next president of the United States should concentrate more on ECONOMIC/EDUCATIONAL issues instead of worrying about who believes in or who follows what religion or "supernatural" institution.
That's all I can really say about myself for now. And thank you for reading this.
Black History Month is definitely important because too many times African Americans are not credited for the contributions that they have made to the United States (as well in other parts of the world, of course.) And it is not just about Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, or Harriet Tubman either. African Americans (or I should say Black people all over the face of this earth) have contributed to entertainment, business, education, sports, and definitely the military as being cannon-fodder. Not to mention being slaves, building most of this country off the sweat of our backs and the blood...
