About me - Michael Johnson

About me

I was born in Ballyclare Co. Antrim in January 1947, on exactly the same day as David Bowie was being born somewhere else. I was recognised as being a bright kid, although it seemed to me that I was extraordinarily dense. I couldn't make much sense of the world, but everybody else seemed quite comfortable with it. What I could do was to recognise patterns, and, as it turned out, pass exams. That got me through the first 20 years or so, at the end of which I had an M Sc in Maths. Miraculously the profession of computer programmer was invented at that point, to save me from unemployability. That got me through the remaining 40 years and hopefully the next 20 too.

At the age of 30 I was working in Munich, West Germany, and I had a girl-friend. Sometimes it happens that a young woman approaches 30 and wants children so desperately that she will take any man with the same idea. This is not the best way to do it. Nonetheless we went back to the UK and had 2 daughters, followed by a son who was born in the Arabian Gulf island of Bahrain because we couldn't afford him otherwise. Back in the UK we still couldn't afford him, so we returned to Munich in 1986, finding that very little had changed.

We then proceeded with a nightmare marriage that brought me to the very edge of sanity and cost me all contact with my friends and family. It was a very interesting experience. At the age of 50 I became the single parent of 2 daughters, followed by a son and his cat. Life became bearable again, and then quickly improved to be great fun again. These were probably the best 10 years of my life, although there was no time for anything but job and kids.

The kids grew into excellent young adults. Life has become wonderful. I still can't make much sense of the world, but it doesn't matter. I look forward to the next 30 years.

The parable of the wheat and tares,Jesus' last parable, can only be interpreted as stating that there are simply two completely different types of person, good and evil with no middle ground. This would not of course be to the liking of people who prefer vagueness and silly discussions or even stupid arguments but they just need to grow up.Some people actually seem hell bent on undermining the obvious truth. Accepting that people are either one thing or the other makes nothing but sense. It explains obvious hopeless cases (which do exist whether some people like it or not) and completely simpl...
