or:
maybe just a little

(only for the space of one betrayal-)

your fists oddly
stamped

potential hazards
pretty but not beautiful
finally in focus
or close enough to reach out and-

your hands
folded neatly and put away
odd
hard
finally slipping into some semblance of recognition

your pattern of breathing
crunches like glass across this divide
a gulf
a canyon
an eternity

secondhand
touch felt only as gasps
pretty but not
beautiful.
