I am a single, 60 year old Grandmother living high in the Colorado Rockies and helping to raise my 9 year old Granddaughter.
I thought I had raised my kids (2 daughters ages 42 and 37 respectively) but along came little Taylor!
My younger daughter is a single mom, living with me and working hard to make the most/best of her situation, so it is my responsibility to help keep this precious little life as happy as it can be.
Anyway, being re-introduced to raising a baby again certainly brought me to my knees many times! But I thank God she came along, children are a constant inspiration and know only how to love (and eat and you know the rest)!
I have worked at home for the past 11 years and wouldn't have it any other way. This lifestyle has allowed me to be here for Taylor at all times and stages of her life, what a treat that has been. Having children around certainly inspires many true life stories and well as many imagined ones. Taylor has a more active imagination than my daughters had and I attribute that to her being a single child living in an isolated area.
Taylor can make still make a day out of a cardboard box and crayons. Watching her react to many situations is my inspiration to keep going.
We have lived up on this mountain for 9 years now and it has afforded peace, tranquility, and a lifestyle that only a small town with one main street can provide. There are no traffic jams, (well, maybe at the 4 way stop sign by the store every now and then!) everyone knows each other and there are no locked doors. Many a bear have been known to creep up on an open door only to be shooed away by the occupants. We live on the edge up here.
I grew up in a small town in southern Colorado that was a coal mining town in the 'olden' days. My two brothers and I had much to do running all over a total of 4 square miles of this town when (most) of the time we could hear our Mother call us to supper. Or maybe we just had conveniently blocked the sound of her voice as we weren't ready to give up the soft sunsets and our marble games in the warmer months and sledding down every hill around in the winter with our gang of friends.
I am currently in study with the Institute of Children's Literature of Connecticut to learn the ins and outs of writing children's books. The story that got me entrance to this highly regarded institute was titled: 'Sledding With My Brothers - Circa 1954'. It is a great little piece depicting how big brothers are more than a little bored, reluctant or just plain don't want their little sister tagging along all the time....but I loved doing it just the same!
Thanks for getting to know me!

Well, I have to tell you, the gift that I received should go down in The History Of Bad Gifts book. My ex-husband's wife has no reason to be cheap, they are pretty well off but that doesn't stop 'Nancy' from her cheap habits. Last Christmas my granddaughter came home from visiting their Grandpa and had some pretty decent gifts from him and 'Nancy'....(not her real name, fictitious to protect the innocent -ME- ) But the gift they gave me was suspicious at best. Not only was it an ugly, faded and practically broken figurine of a flower pot and wire flowers, but it still had the price tag on ...
