Myca was born in Lakeland, Fl. but spent the majority of her childhood in Guatemala, Mexico and Costa Rica where she attended a bilingual international school. During her senior year of high school Myca relocated to Northern Michigan. She and her husband, Dave, currently reside in Traverse City, MI and have three children: Joy (10), Isaac (9), and Benjamin (8). Benjamin was diagnosed with Classic Autism by the school system at age three. Myca tutors Spanish , is a substitute teacher's aide, and is actively involved in the Autism Community in Michigan. She is currently working on her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. In her spare time Myca enjoys hiking, going to movies, reading Ted Dekker books and traveling abroad.
In order for a class to have a multicultural education which is inclusive the children must be exposed to ideas and experiences outside of their normal day to day routine. Some of the necessary steps to insuring the success of a multicultural program include the use of an inclusive curriculum by placing the student at the center of the teaching and learning process (Johnson, Musial, Hall, Gollnick, Dupuis p. 113), incorporating the children's diverse cultures and experiences, and making adjustments to accommodate the special needs students.
