I love to write, so I write. Since I could hold a pencil, it seems I have been creating stories, poems and one-liners. Born in Cole Harbour, just outside of Halifax, NS, I had the best of both worlds: rural and city. We had horses a few hundred feet away and large fields and the woods to run and play in. We also had movie theatres, large stores, museums, libraries and the provincial archives within minutes.
Although I always dreamed of becoming a published writer, not until I became a stay-at-home mom with my first child did I begin to submit material and realize my dream. Now, after eight years, I write every day and get published weekly. And I still work at home, so I'm here for my children when they get off the bus.
An outdoors person, I have many interests including gardening, hiking, camping, fishing, boating, exploring, biking and just about anything the kids suggest (kite flying, bubble blowing, climbing trees, etc.). Addicted to genealogy, I am often found at cemeteries, libraries, archives, museums and any other place where I can dig up information.
I was always told that you have to live and experience to write. I must have taken that advice to heart because I have travelled a great deal and held many positions in the job market. I can flip pizzas high in the air (impresses the kids), shingle the roof of a house, propagate geraniums, box a snack pack and insert I.C.'s into a circuit board.
My website, The Family Attic ( http://www.thefamilyattic.info/Roots.html ) is the portal to the many things I enjoy and write about.
One of those true to life moments written a few years ago: Now that the new year has arrived, many resolutions are being made to improve the bad habits of life. Like many others, I have promised to exercise more and lose weight. While at my mom's home, I stepped on the scale to see just how much I had to lose to reach my pre-pregnancy weight and fit into my old jeans. "Wow," I said, shaking my head. "It is time to lose this extra weight." My three-year-old daughter, who had been watching closely, quickly asked as she stepped on the scale, "Can I see what time it is, too?"

When I first heard "Nothing Better to Do" by Leann Rimes on the radio, it caught my ear. It was an upbeat song with a catchy chorus that was easy to sing along with. Hey, doesn't everybody wish we had nothing better to do than just sit back and listen to the song or jump up and dance. The only problem I had with Leann's singing was that I couldn't make out some of the words regardless of how closely I listened. No matter, it was a good tune with a good beat. It wouldn't be the first song I listened to and enjoyed without knowing everything that was said. After a few months of listening to ...
