I learned the craft of writing in 2006 and have enjoyed a new career since then. I took a course with Long Ridge Writing School Primarily (and recommend it to anyone). I write articles for publishing, however I have learned to write short stories as well.
My passion is ...
My passion is knowing that each day I choose to do something positive that will leave the world a better place because I was here from 1938 to a day in the 21st century.
I know too much about ...
fundraising and grant writing for nonprofit organizations
My parents always told me ...
less than my best won't do
My childhood ambition ...
My childhood ambition was to be a person who would take time to help others. At 71, I know that I have lived my life fulfilling that ambition. I may never receive the Congressional Medal of Honor; however, I have sought to make a difference by helping others in various ways. Knowing how I have done so may not be noted in public ways but in quiet heartfelt, almost secret ways. My rewards have been felt within my heart.
My favorite memory ...
watching my little baby find her tongue...she just couldn't figure out what that was..touched it, rolled it around her lips, pulled it, laughed
Why I write ...
I write because I think, because I learn, because I live. Always an avid reader from childhood to this moment, I filled my mind with information and ideas....that naturally led to writing.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
I read the daily newspaper, "The Oregonian", nonfiction books based on historical and and sociological events.
My first job ...
My first job was joining my mother and siblings picking up metal and rubber items to help "the war effort" while my father was serving in World War II in the Pacific. As far my post-college career, I taught Creative Writing to the eighth grade in Ceres, Califoria starting in September 1960.
My best moment ...
To find "my best moment" in a search of my memories, my search continually focused on the moment of my greatest disappointment. That moment that my name was not called as the recipient of an honor for which I had hoped to earn during high school. My name was not called but that moment led me to learn an important lesson: that during my life, there will always be disappointments so I must be prepared to respond to them with 'class'.
My inspiration ...
My inspiration has changed according to the stage of life in which I find myself. My greatest inspiration was my youngest daughter during her 4th year. During some crisis moments of my life that year, I received love and positive energy when her sweet face came to mind. Many days, I needed that.
Marriage should not be a sacred institution between only a woman and a man. I believe that any two persons of marrying age should have the same advantages that any man and woman can have in America just by purchasing a marriage license in any state. I do not believe that only a select few Americans should have the excellent benefits that the federal and state government offer. Because marriage is not a religious matter, but a government matter, there should be no discrimination among persons of the legal age to marry. Why shouldn't two people of the same gender have the legal right to marr...
